Who we are and what we do
Car Mint is a vehicle collection referral service. We do not buy, collect or recycle vehicles ourselves. We take your details, give you a guide price, and arrange for a licensed, Environment Agency permitted Authorised Treatment Facility ("the recycling partner") to collect your vehicle, pay you and issue the Certificate of Destruction. The recycling partner pays us a fee for each completed collection. You pay nothing.
Guide prices
- The price shown online is a guide based on the vehicle's weight, the current scrap metal price and the answers you give about its condition.
- It is valid for 7 days from the date shown.
- The final price is confirmed by the recycling partner when they inspect the vehicle. It will only differ from the guide if the vehicle is materially different from your description (for example missing catalytic converter, wheels, battery or engine parts, or it does not roll and steer). Any change will be explained before the vehicle is loaded and you may decline.
Your responsibilities
- You must be the registered keeper or have the keeper's authority to scrap the vehicle.
- You must provide photo ID and proof of address on collection, as required by the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
- You must remove personal belongings and any private registration you wish to keep before collection.
- You must give accurate information about the vehicle's condition and access.
Payment
Payment is made by the recycling partner by bank transfer to the registered keeper's account. Cash payment for scrap vehicles is illegal in England and Wales and will never be offered.
Cancellation
You may cancel at any time before the vehicle is loaded, at no cost. If a collection is missed because the vehicle, keys or paperwork were not available at the agreed time, we may decline to rebook.
Our liability
We arrange collections in good faith but the contract for the sale of the vehicle is between you and the recycling partner. We are not responsible for the condition of the recovery vehicle, the conduct of the driver, or delays outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
Complaints and law
See our complaints page. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
